Missouri Tops Cougars 4-1

         COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Missouri Tigers broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run fourth inning Wednesday night and held on to defeat Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball 4-1 at Taylor Stadium.
         Missouri, 9-10, held on for the win despite being out hit by the Cougars 7-4 in the contest.
         SIUE, 2-10, struck first on a cool, wet night in mid-Missouri. Chilos Norris led off the first with a double to right center. Norris scored two batters later when Josh Street lined an RBI single to right off Missouri starter Ian Berger to put the Cougars up 1-0 after one inning. It stayed that way until the third.
         Missouri evened the score with a run on a pair of hits in the third inning off of Cougar reliever Aren Cummings. Cummings surrendered three runs on a pair of hits in the fourth that put Missouri up for good. Cummings took the loss for the Cougars and fell to 0-3 for the season.
         Tigers' center fielder Ryan Lollis ripped a two-run triple to the left field corner to begin the scoring in the inning.
         SIUE threatened in the top of the eighth inning. With runners at first and second and two out in the inning, Michael Hopkins drilled a single to right, but Street was thrown out, trying to score from second, to end the inning.
         Street led the way for SIUE offensively. Street was 2 for 4 with a pair of singles and the RBI. Norris was 1-3 with the double, a run scored and a sacrifice bunt.
         Missouri used 11 pitchers to defeat the Cougars. Scooter Hicks (1-1) earned the win in relief. SIUE used four hurlers. Reliever Spencer Patton enjoyed the best night of the four. Patton tossed three shutout innings and struck out six.
         SIUE will travel to Martin, Tenn., for three games this weekend. The Cougars face Purdue Saturday at 1 p.m. and then UT-Martin at 4 p.m. SIUE and UT-Martin will also face-off Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
