         MILLINGTON, Tenn. -- Memphis designated hitter Cole Shelton connected for a two-out grand slam in the seventh inning to vault Memphis to a 5-1 win over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in the middle game of a three-game series Saturday afternoon at USA Stadium.
         The long ball came off Cougars' reliever Luke Vine, who retired the first two batters he faced before Tyler Huelsing reached on a catcher's interference call. Vine relieved starter Josh Hoguet earlier in the inning.
         Hoguet tossed six no-hit innings before surrendering a hit to start the seventh. He then hit a batter before being pulled. He struck out five and walked one in the loss and drops to 1-3 with the defeat.
         Heith Hatfield earned the win for Memphis. He allowed just a run on six hits over seven innings to improve to 1-3.
         Memphis, 14-19, added a run on three hits in the eighth for the final margin.
         SIUE, 6-21, took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Dustin Brooks led off the inning with a double then scored on an RBI single by Mike Hurt. SIUE held that lead until the seventh.
         Hurt was 1-3 for the game. Mitch Matecki was 2-4. Cougars' second baseman Josh Street was unable to hit safely, ending his team-leading hitting streak at 18 games.
         The two schools play the finale three-game series Saturday afternoon in Millington. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
