Governors Clip SIUE in 11 innings

         CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay closed out a three-game series with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with an 8-7 win in 11 innings at Raymond C. Hand Park.
         Austin Peay improved to 13-17 while the baseball Cougars dropped to 5-18.
         Brooks Hunton doubled to right center, scoring Haskell Fink for the winning run in the 11th off SIUE pitcher Andrew Beatty, who fell to 0-4.
         Daniel Tenholder, the third Austin Peay pitcher of the day, picked up the win with three innings of work. He gave up two runs and struck out three.
         SIUE held the lead 5-4 in the sixth inning. The Cougars put together a four-run rally. The scoring got started in the inning when Chilos Norris singled and scored on Josh Street's ninth home run of the season. Mike Hurt later scored on an infield error. Ryan Wiggs also doubled home Chase Thrasher to put SIUE ahead.
         The long ball would come into play often in the late innings.
         Chris Lewellyn blasted a solo shot in the bottom of the eight to tie the score 5-5.
         Norris then countered with a two-run homer in the top of the ninth. Mitch Matecki scored on the play.
         Austin Peay would tie it up in the ninth when Greg Bachman ripped his own two-run homer. Bachman would lead Austin Peay with four RBIs.
         SIUE now returns to Edwardsville for its first home game of the season, a 6 p.m. game at SimmonsCooper Complex Tuesday against Saint Louis.
