Homers Lift Cougars over Bradley

         PEORIA, Ill. -- Amanda Pucel and Kasey Schlafke both hit solo home runs Tuesday as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville downed Bradley University 4-1 at Laura Bradley Field.
         The Cougars, with votes in the Ultimate College Softball.com NCAA Division I national poll, improved to 29-7. The Braves dropped below the .500 mark with a 15-16 record.
         SIUE right-hander Erika Taylor scattered four hits and struck out seven. She improved her season record to 14-4.
         The Cougars jumped on Bradley starter Katie Dennis, 3-6, from the opening pitch. Courtney Mall and Schlafke each singled to open the game. The duo were driven home later in the first inning by singles from Nicole Beecher and Lindsay Longfellow.
         Pucel drilled her third home run of the season to lead off the second inning. Bradley would bring in pitcher Amanda Clack to finish the final six innings after Pucel's home run.
         Schlafke added her third homer of the season in the third inning, a drive just inside the left field foul pole.
         Bradley didn't score until the sixth when Jacqueline Vitale homered to break up the shutout.
         SIUE goes for win No. 30 Wednesday afternoon in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The Cougars face Southeast Missouri State, a future Ohio Valley Conference opponent, in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
