Cougars Fall to SLU 9-5

         ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Saint Louis Billikens used three three-run innings Wednesday night to defeat Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 9-5 at the Billiken Sports Center at Saint Louis University.
         The win is the first in three tries this season for SLU against SIUE. The baseball Cougars won the first two of four season meetings. The two schools will conclude the series with a matchup May 13 at GCS Ballpark in Sauget.
         Saint Louis, 18-15, took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, thanks in part to a two-run homer by SLU first baseman Zach Miller.
         SIUE, 6-19. scored twice in the second to cut the lead to 3-2. Mike Hurt drove in a run with a single, and Zach Hawkins added an RBI with a sacrifice fly. Mitch Matecki added his fourth home run of the year in the third to tie the game 3-3.
         Hurt finished the night 3-4 with the RBI.
         SLU regained the lead with a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by a solo home run and a two-run single. The Cougars got two runs in the fifth, on an RBI triple by Chilos Norris III and an RBI hit by Josh Street, to make it 6-5 Saint Louis. The hit by Street extended his team-leading hitting streak to 17 games.
         A three-run sixth inning sealed the game for the Billikens.
         Mitchell Fairley lasted 4 2/3 innings in the loss for the Cougars. He allowed six runs on eight hits. He struck out four and dropped to 1-2 for the year.
         SIUE will begin a three-game series against Memphis on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn., the former site of the USA Baseball team's training facility.
