Cougars Top UE in 13 Innings

         EVANSVILLE, IND.-Southern Illinois University Edwardsville won a marathon series finale over the University of Evansville Sunday, defeating the Aces 10-9 in 13 innings.
         Zach Hawkins drove in the game-winner for the Cougars in the top of the 13th inning. Hawkins singled after Ryan Wiggs reached on a dropped third strike and went all the way to third on a throwing error by Aces' catcher Matt Major.
         Aren Cummings earned the win for SIUE, throwing 10 1/3 innings of relief. He allowed two runs, just one earned, on six hits. He struck out seven to improve to 1-3. Cummings threw 140 pitches in the outing.
         The Cougars improved to 11-32 with the win, while Evansville dropped to 24-23.
         Connor Haxel led the way for the Cougars, who banged out 22 hits on the afternoon. Haxel was 4 for 7 with an RBI. Haxel put the Cougars on top in the top of the 12th inning, only to have UE tie the game in the bottom of the inning.
         Josh Street was 3-6 with a pair of RBIs for the Cougars. Hawkins was 2-6 with a pair of RBIs. Brett Keeler was also 2-6 with two RBIs. Mitch Matecki was 3-5.
         The Cougars are off until Friday night when they begin a three-game series at Morehead State University. Game time Friday is 6 p.m. central time.
