CONWAY, Ark. - Creighton rallied for 13 runs in the seventh
inning and corralled SIUE baseball 22-0 Saturday in a neutral site
game.
SIUE, 0-2, picked up three hits in the game. Creighton used four
different pitchers to defeat the Cougars. Travis Becherer,
Joel
Greatting and Mike Hurt each
collected hits for SIUE.
Creighton didn't score in its season opener until the third
inning. Robbie Knight doubled home the first run of the game. Eliot
Soto added a sacrifice fly.
The Bluejays chipped away at SIUE pitching. Dustin
Quattrocchi gave up three runs in his four innings of work and
suffered the loss. The Bluejays added more runs off SIUE's bullpen,
which included Brian Lorenz, Luke
Ingersoll, Brooks McDowell
and Jake
Stauffenberg.
Creighton's big inning came in the seventh. Michael Blatchford
hit a two-run homer to highlight the inning.
Soto led the Bluejays overall with five RBIs while Jimmy Swift
added four. Creighton finished with 18 hits overall.
SIUE's weekend continues Sunday with a 1 p.m. game against
Central Arkansas.
