LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Adam Eggemeyer blasted a two-run homer in the top of the ninth of game one as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville gained a split at Arkansas-Little Rock.
SIUE, 1-3, lost the nightcap to UALR 13-6. The two teams play another doubleheader Sunday at noon.
In game one, SIUE and UALR exchanged multiple leads. SIUE struck first when Eggemeyer was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a single by Dustin Brooks and scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Hopkins.
The Trojans jumped ahead 2-1 on a two-run double by Cody Gilles. SIUE regained the lead in the fifth on an RBI double by Zach Hawkins and a sacrifice fly by Joel Greatting. Hawkins gave SIUE a 4-2 lead in the sixth with an RBI single, scoring Mitch Matecki who led off the inning with a double.
UALR rallied for three runs in the eighth before Eggemeyer closed out the scoring in the ninth.
Dustin Quattrocchi earned the victory in relief. He allowed just one hit over the final 1 2/3 innings.
In the nightcap, UALR rallied for five runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to push past the Cougars 13-16. The Trojans collected 16 hits to improve to 4-1 for the season.
Second baseman James Vazquez led the Cougars with two RBIs. Vazquez, Matecki and Brett Keeler each had two hits for SIUE.
