JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The SIUE Cougars baseball team dropped its seventh-straight decision Saturday, falling to East Tennessee State University 14-1 at Howard Johnson Field.
The Cougars' only run came in the fourth inning on a solo home run by sophomore Zach Hawkins. Hawkins' second homer of the year made it 2-1 at the time.
Hawkins finished 3 for 4 with the home run, a double and a single.
ETSU, 10-2, led 6-1 before plating seven runs in the seventh inning.
SIUE, 2-12, managed just six total hits. Adam Eggemeyer was 2 for 4 with a pair of singles. Mitch Matecki had the only other hit, a third-inning single.
Mitchell Fairley, 0-2, started and pitched the first 4 2/3 innings for SIUE, allowing six runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out three. Brian Lorenz allowed three runs over 1.1 innings. Brent Rynearson allowed five runs over the final two innings.
The Cougars wrap up the series with East Tennessee State, as well as the nine-game, 11-day road trip Sunday. First pitch is set for noon CT.
