EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Evansville swept a baseball doubleheader from the SIUE Cougars Saturday afternoon, winning 9-2 and 9-3, to sweep the three-game series.
The two teams played the double-header Saturday to avoid weather concerns on Sunday when the third game of the series was originally scheduled.
In game one, the Aces, 10-11, used a three-run sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie. Evansville then got a four-run seventh inning for the final margin.

The Cougars took an initial lead in the second game thanks to a pair of first inning hits against Aces starter Scott Scheumann. Mitch Matecki doubled then scored thanks to two wild pitches. Dustin Brooks singled with two outs but was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double.
UE scored single runs in each of the first four innings to build a 4-0 lead against Cougar starter Tony Schaeffer, 0-2. Schaeffer pitched 5 1/3 innings in the defeat. He allowed four runs on six his. Evansville scored four times in the seventh against reliever Josh Hoguet to push the lead to 8-1.
The Cougars scored twice in the eighth before Evansville added one final run in the bottom of the inning.
SIUE, 5-15, mustered only three runs on nine hits total in the nightcap. Brooks had the only multi-hit game for the Cougars. Brooks was 2 for 4. He drove in a run with an eighth-inning double.
The Cougars are off until Friday when they travel to future Ohio Valley Conference rival Tennessee Tech to begin a three-game series with the Tigers. First pitch Friday is 3 pm.
