CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Austin Peay Governors scored four runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh Sunday to score a come-from-behind 10-9 win over the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball team in the finale of the Riverview Inn Invitational.
SIUE, 2-8, led 8-3 going to the sixth inning.
Dustin Quattrocchi, 1-3, surrendered all seven runs and took the loss. Quattrocchi pitched 2.2 innings in relief. He struck out three. Luke Ingersoll started for the Cougars and allowed three runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings. He struck out one.
Austin Peay, 8-2, took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first on five hits off the Cougars'starter.
SIUE answered with a single run in the second and four more in the third to take a 5-2 lead. Adam Eggemeyer hit a two-run homer in the third, and Mike Hurt drove in the other two with a double.
SIUE pushed the lead to 7-3 with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Brett Lancaster singled to drive in a run, before a double-play ball scored another. Eggemeyer walked to start the sixth inning and then scored, to make it 8-3 Cougars, when Mitch Matecki tripled off the center field wall.
Eggemeyer added his third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. He finished 1 for 4 with the homer and three RBIs. Hurt finished 3 for 5 with the two RBIs. Lancaster was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
The Cougars will now travel to Cullowhee, N.C., to face Western Carolina in a two-game mid-week series beginning Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. CT.
