The two teams will wrap the three-game series with a single game Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
Dustin Quattrocchi, 4-3, tossed the first complete game of his career in game two. The sophomore left-hander struck out seven in the win.
"Dustin's just a real good pitcher," SIUE Head Coach Gary Collins said. "Every time out there he gives us a chance to win."
SIUE scored three times in the second inning and never trailed in the nightcap. The Cougars took advantage of a pair of Murray State errors in the inning. Zach and Thad Hawkins each had RBIs in the inning.
Murray State catcher Jason Laws hit a two-run home run in the sixth to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Cougars answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring twice on RBI hits by Mitch Matecki and Dustin Brooks. Matecki's single was the 100th hit of his SIUE career.
Michael Hopkins and Zach Hawkins each had two hits in the finale for the Cougars.
The Cougars came back twice in game one before holding on for the win.
Trailing 2-0 after the first inning, the Cougars scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to even the score. Joel Greatting walked to start the seventh inning and then scored on a single by Matecki to put SIUE up 3-2.
Matecki was 3 for 4 with the RBI in game one.
Murray State answered with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth to go back on top 4-3.
Brooks and Greatting each picked up two-out, RBI singles in the eighth to put SIUE back up for good.
Brooks was 3 for 5 with the RBI. Greatting was 1 for 2 with the two RBIs.
