MOREHEAD, Ky. - It was a little windy at Allen Field.
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Morehead State combined for 11 home runs Saturday. Morehead State defeated the Cougars 24-14 in the second of a three-game series.
The two teams ripped a combined 46 hits, including 19 extra-base hits. Travis Redmon, the No. 9 hitter in Morehead State's lineup, blasted three home runs and finished 5 for 6 for the game.
Batters were at a clear advantage with heavy winds making a marked difference in play. Relief pitcher Kyle Dodson picked up the loss on the mound for the Cougars. He gave up five runs in 1 1/3 innings pitched in relief of starter Josh Malin.
Trey Smith picked up the win with 1 1/3 innings pitched. He gave up four runs on seven hits in relief of starter Quentin Morgan.
SIUE hit three home runs in the game with blasts from Mitch Matecki, Matt Highland and Michael Hopkins.
Morehead State countered with eight home runs, including three from Redmond and two from Andrew Deeds.
The final game of the series is Sunday at noon.
