RICHMOND, Ky. - Two different games. Same score.
Eastern Kentucky leaped above the .500 mark with a pair of 4-1 victories over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in college baseball action.
EKU improved to 26-25 while the Cougars fell to 14-37. The two teams play one more game in the series with a 1 p.m. ET start Saturday. It is the season finale for the Cougars.
Brett Lancaster provided the biggest hit of the day for SIUE in the nightcap. The Cougar senior hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field fence, in the fifth inning.
Anthony Bazzani, 4-3, outdueled SIUE's Josh Hoguet for the win in the nightcap. Hoguet, 3-2, struck out four and allowed just six hits in 4 1/3 innings. Eric Sanders earned his second save of the season with two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
EKU score once in the first and three more in the second. Two hits and two errors in the second inning were all the Colonels needed.
Ryan Faidley's fourth-inning solo home run was the eventual game-winning hit in EKU's 4-1 win in game one. Paul Duncan threw 6 2/3 innings for EKU for his fifth win of the season. Ryne Purcell earned his 10th save with a scoreless ninth inning. Josh Malin fanned four in 6 2/3 innings and took the loss.
SIUE cut the lead to 2-1 in the sixth. Travis Becherer and Mitch Matecki had back-to-back singles. Becherer would score on an outfield error off the bat of Adam Eggemeyer.
EKU scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to hold off the Cougars.
