RICHMOND, Ky. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Joel Greatting blasted a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the ninth but it wasn't enough as Eastern Kentucky held off the Cougars 8-7 in college baseball action.
Greatting drove home Dustin Brooks, who earlier had driven in two runs on a single in the fourth. The Cougars completed the season with a 14-38 while EKU moved to 27-25 in taking the series.
SIUE outhit the Colonels for the second time in three games in the series. The Cougars outhit EKU 12-10 with three hits each from Ryan Wiggs and Christian Rohlfing. Wiggs, a senior from Belleville, hit his first career home run in the final game of his collegiate career with a third-inning rip to right field.
Jayson Langfels wielded the big bat for Eastern Kentucky. He hit two home runs, both two-run homers, in the third and seventh innings.
Stephen Hefler earned the pitching victory as he struck out four in seven innings. Ryne Purcell picked up his 11th save of the season despite allowing the two-run homer to Greatting. Luke Ingersoll dropped to 0-2 after giving up three runs in relief of starter Dustin Quattrocchi.
