EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.- The SIUE women's soccer team defeated Murray State 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Ralph Korte Stadium, to remain unbeaten for the season.

"It was definitely a good result," SIUE Head Coach Derek Burton said following the win. "Credit goes to the players. They worked really, really hard."

The 5-0-1 start by SIUE is the best start for a Cougar team since the 2001 Cougars began the year 6-0-1. SIUE is now 4-0 at home this season, and has shutout all four of its opponents at Korte Stadium.

Meagan Iffrig put the Cougars on the board in the 13th minute. Iffrig's shot, from 25 yards out beat Racers' goalkeeper Tara Isbell to her left side to put SIUE up 1-0.

Brittany Bodziak converted on a pass from Kaci Harkey less than three minutes later to make it 2-0 Cougars. Bodziak buried a right-foot shot to the upper left corner of the goal.

The Cougars led 2-0 at halftime.

Kristin Dierker sealed the deal in the 81st minute Sunday. Dierker cut through the middle of the field and beat Isbell with a low shot to her left side for the final margin.

Claire Lovercheck earned her fifth shutout of the season, and her second consecutive blanking.

Katie Wilson led the way for the Racers, 1-5-2, with three shots including two on goal.

Ten different players have now scored the Cougars' 12 goals this season.

"It's a team effort every time we go out," Burton said. "We try to stick to that." SIUE heads back on the road Friday to play at Northern Illinois. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
