PEORIA, Ill. - The SIUE women's cross country team was led by a
fresh face for the first time in more than a year as sophomore Dede
Lofton ran a personal best at the Bradley Classic Friday
night.
The Cougars finished 19th of 21 teams competing on Newman Golf
Course.
Lofton ran more than four minutes faster than she did at the
same event last year covering the 6,000-meter course 111th overall
in a time of 23 minutes, 33.74 seconds.
"Dede has been coming along well and continues to progress,"
said SIUE Head Coach Eileen
McAllister. "Despite a tough week of practice, she ran pretty
well."
Also setting a personal best was sophomore Claire
Brown. She finished the 6k in 23:38.26 for 119th place of 230
runners.
Senior Aftan
Noon was the third SIUE runner to finish with a time of
23:55.13 for 130th place.
Sophomore Hannah
Lee traversed the course in 24:56.35 to finish in the middle of
the seven Cougar runners.
Kala
Griffin (25:18.94), Ioana
Citireag (25:20.80), and Katie
Trettenero (25:21.79) rounded out the finishers for SIUE.
"We didn't run at all what I expected coming into today," added
McAllister. "I expected faster times."
SIUE looks to rebound in its final meet of the 2011 season
traveling to Champaign for the Illini Open Oct. 21.
