SEMO Shuts Out Cougars

CAPE GIRADEAU, Mo. - SIUE women's soccer was shutout for the second consecutive game, falling 4-0 at SEMO in Ohio Valley Conference soccer Sunday afternoon.

SIUE, now 3-5-1 overall and 1-3 in the OVC, managed just six shots the entire match, and just two were on goal.

"It was kind of the perfect storm today," SIUE Head Coach Derek Burton said. "We were not very good and we were playing a very good team."

SEMO, 8-2-1 overall and 4-0 in the OVC, got goals from three players. Lauren Bozesky struck twice to lead the charge. The Redhawks took a 2-0 lead into halftime thanks to goals by Bozesky in the 19th minute and Jessie Crabtree in the 43rd. Both of the goals came against SIUE goalkeeper Claire Lovercheck, who started the match and made three saves.

SEMO scored twice more in the second half against Cougar goalkeeper Courtney Vonder Haar. Boszesky scored in the 69th minute to put the Redhawks up 3-0. Amy Ward capped the scoring in the 82nd minute. Vonder Haar also made three saves for SIUE.

"We came up against a very veteran team today," Burton said. They play with a lot of confidence."

"We didn't have the composure on the ball or the sense of urgency defensively," Burton added.

SIUE plays on the road Friday at Missouri. Game time is 6:30 p.m. in Columbia, Mo.
