Cougars Fall at Oral Roberts

TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts scored three times in the fifth inning Saturday and went on the defeat Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 6-3 in the second game of a baseball series at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

"(Oral Roberts) was just better today," Collins said. "I've got a feeling they might be one of the best teams we play all year."

The Golden Eagles, 3-3, got a pair of doubles in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie. Cam Schiller and Spencer Barnett each doubled in the inning to drive in runs. Barnett plated two with the one out hit.

SIUE, 0-5, had scored an unearned run in the third to take a 1-0 lead. Mitch Matecki drove in the run with a sacrifice fly. Travis Becherer scored on the play after reaching on an error earlier in the inning.

Oral Roberts scored in the fourth inning to tie the score at one.

Chris Elder hit a two-run home run in the seventh to put the Eagles up 6-1.

The Cougars took advantage of two errors in the ninth to plate two runs for the final margin.

SIUE managed just four hits total against two ORU pitchers. Right-hander Alex Gonzalez tossed eight innings, allowed one unearned run and striking out five.

"(Gonzalez) was really pretty good," Collins said. "He was very impressive."

Spencer Patton suffered the loss for the Cougars. Patton tossed four innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out four. Dustin Quattrocchi tossed four innings in relief, allowing four runs and striking out three.

The Cougars and Eagles conclude the three game series Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
