DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball didn't have an answer for the offense of Boston College or Michigan State Saturday.

The Cougars fell to 1-9 overall with a 15-0 loss to the Eagles and a 12-6 defeat from the Spartans.

SIUE Head Coach Gary Collins said it was a long day for his Cougars. "We did hit the ball better in second game," he said.

The Cougars picked up 12 hits against Michigan State and led 5-3 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. Michigan State, 7-1, would pick up eight run that went unanswered until the Cougars' Zach Hawkins singled home Travis Becherer in the top of the ninth.

Zach Hawkins would lead SIUE with four hits against Michigan State. "And he made some hard outs today too," Collins added. He raised his season batting average to .316.

Becherer, Joel Greatting, Devin Caldwell and Thad Hawkins would add two hits each.

Travis Felax threw five strong innings for the Cougars. He gave up eight hits and walked just one hitter before leaving the game with the lead.

"Travis Felax threw well again. He did a nice job," said Collins.

In Saturday's opening game, Boston College used three pitchers for a five-hit shutout of the Cougars. Nate Bayuk went seven innings for the Spartans for his second win of the season as Boston College improved to 4-4 overall. Dustin Quattrocchi took the loss for SIUE as he tossed three innings, giving up seven runs on four hits.

SIUE closes out the Bethune-Cookman Tournament Sunday by playing host Bethune-Cookman. Game time is 3 p.m. ET.
