EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The SIUE men's and women's cross country teams will host the John Flamer Invite Saturday, the Cougars' second and final home meet of the season.
The Cougars will use the meet to honor former SIUE Cross Country Head Coach John Flamer. Flamer led the Cougars from 1968-1986, and was a two-time All-American as a Cross Country athlete at SIU Carbondale in 1958 and 1961.
"We're very excited about the response we've gotten," Head Coach Eileen McAllister said. "It should be a great turnout."
The men's 8K race will begin at 10 a.m., before the women's 5K competition starts at 11 a.m. at the SIUE Cross Country Course.
Alumni of the SIUE Cross Country program are invited to run in the women's race, which will be followed by lunch and Flamer's award presentation at 12:30 p.m.
Missouri Baptist will be the only other team competing in the meet, as SIUE continues to gear up for OVC Championships on October 27.
"This meet will be a different setting for our athletes," McAllister said. "They'll be competing more against each other than anything else."
