Box Score MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State and SIUE did all of its scoring in the game's first 28 minutes Sunday as the two schools played to a 1-1 tie in Ohio Valley Conference women's soccer.
"All is not lost. We got a point," SIUE Head Coach Derek Burton said. "We worked hard to get that point on the road, but we are a little disappointed because we know we could have had all three points."
SIUE is now 7-6-3 overall and 4-3-2 in the OVC. Morehead State moves to 1-11-4 and 1-4-3 in league play.
"We had so many chances in the second half and in overtime," Burton added. "(Morehead State) probably had more chances in the first half."
For the second game in a row, the Cougars struck first. Katye Skrivan picked up her second goal of the year in the 14th minute to make it 1-0 Cougars. Skrivan dribbled around a defender, using a 360o spin, into the box then scored from 18 yards away. Burton said he was proud of the freshman, who was playing despite feeling under the weather.
"That was a real quality finish," Burton said of the goal. "I was really proud of her today."
Morehead State answered in the 28th minute when Macy Cobb redirected a cross from Paige Weber past SIUE goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley.
The Cougars held an 18-5 advantage in shots, including outshooting the Eagles 7-0 in the two overtime periods. The Cougars had a free kick as time was running out on the second overtime, but Michelle Auer's shot sailed just over the crossbar.
"We dominated overtime," Burton said. "This team fought hard today. It was a hard-battled game in a really tough environment. Our girls stood up to it."
The draw keeps SIUE winless on the road this season. The Cougars are now 0-4-2 in road games. SIUE will have one final chance to pick up the road win in its season finale next Sunday at Belmont.
