Box Score RICHMOND, Ky. – For the second time in as many games an EKU pitcher turned in a complete game win. Saturday it was Shane Grimm who kept the Cougars at bay, as EKU defeated SIUE 8-2 in the second game of a three-game Ohio Valley Conference baseball series.
Grimm (3-4) allowed two runs on five hits. He struck out seven and walked three in his first complete game of the season.
Eastern Kentucky (11-15, 3-2) got all the offense it would need in a six-run second inning against Cougar starter Josh Hoguet. The Colonels scored five of their runs in the inning with two outs. Alex Hughes started the scoring with a one-out solo home run. Austin Grisham capped the inning with a two-out, two-run triple.
Both Hughes and Grisham finished 2 for 4. Grisham led the way with three RBIs.
Hoguet settled in to pitch seven innings. He allowed eight runs on nine hits. He walked four and struck out four.
"He saved our bullpen today," SIUE Head Coach Gary Collins said.
Dylan Brown pitched the eighth inning, allowing a hit and walking one.
Zach Hawkins and Joel Greatting had the only RBIs for the SIUE (13-13, 2-3). Hawkins doubled in the fourth inning to drive home Travis Becherer, who had walked to start the inning. Becherer walked again to lead off the sixth inning and then scored on a groundout by Greatting. Both Hawkins and Greatting were 1 for 4 with the RBI.
The series finale is set for Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon central time.
"There's pressure on everybody," Collins said. "We're trying to get a win and salvage something from the weekend."
