COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech took advantage of a rebound Friday afternoon to defeat SIUE 1-0 in Ohio Valley Conference women's soccer at Tech Soccer Field.

"We're playing well enough to win," Derek Burton said. "We just didn't win."

SIUE is now 4-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the OVC. The Cougars remain winless on the road. In three road contests they are 0-2-1. SIUE has not scored a goal away from Korte Stadium. Tennessee Tech is now 3-6-1 overall and 1-1 in OVC play.

After a scoreless first half, the Golden Eagles' Sarah Gawthrop netted the game-winner just 3:18 into the second half. Ellie Iaciofano collected a rebound off the crossbar before finding Gawthrop who was able to get it by SIUE goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley. Pelley made six saves and lost for just the second time this season.

The Cougars were not without their chances. SIUE peppered the TTU goal with a season-high 30 shots, including 14 on goal. Michelle Auer and Cassidy Sherman each had six shots in the game. Auer put four on frame. Sherman, Sarah Doggendorf, Katye Skrivan, and Samantha Jones all had two shots on goal each. Tennessee Tech goalkeeper made all 14 saves in the shutout.

"We had looks from everywhere," Burton said. "The longer we went, the more pressure built. We have to do a better job. At some point we have to find a way to finish."

"We're too good, and too talented," Burton added. "At some point it's going to come and (our offense) is going to have a big game."

The Cougars continue the road trip at Jacksonville State Sunday.

"We're not hanging our heads," Burton said. "We have another chance to get our second conference win on Sunday. That's what we'll aim to do."
