Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – SIUE's Kelsey Augustine boasted 10 kills Saturday but the volleyball Cougars took a three-set loss on the road to Ohio Valley Conference newcomer Belmont.
The Bruins evened their OVC record to 2-2 and overall mark to 6-12 with the 25-17, 25-14, 25-15 win over SIUE. The Cougars fell to 6-9 overall and also are 2-2 in the OVC.
"We couldn't put any pressure on them at all," said SIUE Head Coach Leah Johnson. "We had four missed serves in the first set and that allowed the game to come too easy for Belmont."
Augustine led SIUE with a .304 hitting percentage and two blocks. Brianne Graunke added six kills as the Cougars hit .078 for the match.
"Chelsea Colclasure played great defense," added Johnson. Colclasure, SIUE's libero, led the team with 15 digs and helped minimize some of Belmont's offensive options, according to Johnson.
Belmont picked up big matches from Jen Hall and Alex Martin who finished with 13 and 11 kills, respectively. The Bruins hit .350 for the match.
SIUE now returns to the Vadalabene Center for a pair of matches against East Division foes. The Cougars welcome Eastern Kentucky Friday for a 7 p.m. match followed by Morehead State at 2 p.m. Saturday.
