NASHVILLE, Tenn. – SIUE baseball hit four home runs Sunday in the series final with the Belmont Bruins, but they came in a losing cause. Belmont swept the three-game Ohio Valley Conference series with a 25-7 win Sunday afternoon at Rose Park.

The Cougars fell to 8-22 overall and 6-12 in the OVC with the loss. Belmont moved to 26-8 overall and 13-2 in league play.

The Cougars have now collected at least 10 hits in six of their last seven games.

Devin Caldwell clubbed a pair of homers and drove in three. He finished 2 for 3. Joel Greatting hit a two-run home run and was 1 for 5. Skyler Geissinger was 2 for 4 and hit his second home run of the season. Denton Reed was 2 for 5 and drove in a run.

"Devin has found a comfort spot in the lineup," SIUE Interim Head Coach Tony Stoecklin said. "Skyler took some good at-bats as well."

The Bruins scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back Sunday afternoon. Right fielder Drew Turner led the Bruins at the plate. He was 5 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs. Scott Moses was 3 for 6 with a home run and five RBIs. Alec Diamond was 3 for 5 with 5 RBIs.

Cougar starter J.D. Williams suffered the loss for SIUE. Williams allowed six runs on five hits in just one inning. He walked two and struck out one. SIUE used seven pitchers Sunday.

Belmont starter James Buckelew allowed five runs on eight hits over six innings to earn the win for the Bruins He walked four and struck out two.

The Cougars travel to Indiana State for a 5 p.m. CT game Wednesday.

"We're going to have to push past this and move on," Stoecklin said.
