Women's Soccer Falls to Austin Peay

Box Score

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's soccer saw its first conference loss of the season in a 1-0 game against Austin Peay.

SIUE falls to 7-5-1 on the season and 4-1 in conference. This marks the first time this season that the Cougars have been shutout.

"The main thing is moving forward and learning from this game," said Head Coach Derek Burton.

The first half ended in a scoreless tie, in which the Cougar defense allowed no shots from Austin Peay.

Gina Fabbro scored the lone goal for the Lady Govs in the 58th minute after getting past the goalkeeper and netting the ball from three yards out.

"We need to be more composed around the box and start converting chances when we get them," said Burton. "We need to put the ball in the back of the net."

Katye Skrivan and Kayla Delgado led the team with four and five shots, respectively. SIUE outshot the Lady Govs 15-6. Goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley recorded three saves in the game.

SIUE goes on the road next weekend to play Morehead State on Friday and Eastern Kentucky on Sunday.

"This was our first challenge since conference play started," said Burton. "I challenged them to come ready to work in practice this week and get ready to go on the road."
