Box Score

MURRAY, Ky. – SIUE volleyball collected the most blocks it has had in a match in more than a month but could not get enough to defeat Murray State Friday night at Racer Arena.

The first-place Racers defeated SIUE 25-22, 25-18, 25-23. Murray State is now 17-4 overall and 8-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Cougars, which close out a four-match road swing at Austin Peay Saturday at 2 p.m., fell to 9-15 overall and 1-8 in the OVC.

SIUE finished the match with nine blocks, the most since the Cougars defeated Mississippi State Sept. 19th.

"Our blocking was wonderful," said SIUE Head Coach Leah Johnson. "It channeled the ball to our best defenders."

Kristen Torre turned in another strong offensive performance with 11 kills on 22 attacks. The junior middle blocker added a team-best six blocks.

SIUE freshman Taylor Joens hit .500 for the match with six kills. Taylor Held added seven kills.

Murray State used a match-high 13 kills from Scottie Ingram in the win. The Racers edged the Cougars in hitting percentage .226 to .218 and in kills 39-33.

"Murray State is a really good team and is on track to host the conference tournament," said Johnson. "I saw a lot of positives tonight. We're on the right track."
