Box Score COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – SIUE women's soccer ends its four-game road trip with a fourth consecutive win over Tennessee Tech.
"It's definitely a testament to the players that they are able to stay mentally tough and focused away from home," said Head Coach Derek Burton. "We started out a little sluggish, but the three biggest factors in the game were Kassidy Rawdon, Katye Skrivan, and Samantha Jones."
The Cougars ended the first half in a scoreless tie. The second half opened with a goal form Kayla Delgado in the 49th minute, her third goal of the season. Skrivan assisted the goal, which was scored from 13 yards out.
"That goal set the tone for the second half," said Burton.
Freshman Emily Grahl sealed the victory for the Cougars with a goal of her own in the 85th minute. Grahl beat her defender up the middle and was able to net her third goal of the year. Michelle Auer assisted the play.
"One of the things that makes us a dangerous team is that we can score in different ways," said Burton.
The Cougats outshot Tennessee Tech 24-3. Auer notched seven shots in the game. Jennifer Pelley grabbed one save.
SIUE improves to 11-5-1 overall and 8-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play, remaining in first place.
The Cougars return to Korte Stadium for the last game of the regular season Friday, Oct. 31 against Southeast Missouri. With a win, the team will clinch the regular season conference title.
"We look forward to a big game and senior night on Friday," said Burton. "We don't have to change anything. We've prepared well for each game and we'll continue to do that."
