Box Score EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's soccer overcame top-ranked UT Martin 2-1 to improve to 3-0 in the conference.
The win marks the first-ever 3-0 Ohio Valley Conference start in SIUE women's soccer.
"The players are starting to really believe," said Head Coach Derek Burton. "I think we've realized as a group what it takes to get a result."
UT Martin falls to 2-2 in the conference with the loss.
SIUE capitalized on a shot from senior Michelle Auer in the 26th minute to start the game 1-0. The goal, scored from 15 yards out to the far post, was Auer's fifth on the year. It was assisted by Emily Grahl and Marissa Delgado.
Less than three minutes later, the Skyhawks answered with a goal of their own with a header from Rianna Jarrett.
An own goal for the Skyhawks put the Cougars ahead 2-1 less than a minute into the second half.
Kayla Delgado led the team in shots with seven. The Cougars outshot UT Martin 16-10. Jennifer Pelley recorded two saves.
"Any win in conference is huge, it doesn't matter where it's at, but it's certainly nice to play three at home and win three at home," said Burton.
The Cougars begin their road schedule Friday night at Belmont and return to Korte Stadium Sunday to face Austin Peay.
"We'll stay with what we try to do," said Burton. "We'll work on that and getting better as well as recovering. We'll get ready to game plan for Belmont and see what they're all about."
