SIUE Women's Soccer Plays UMKC to 1-1 Draw

Box Score

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's soccer competed for 110 minutes to end the game against UMKC in a 1-1 tie.

UMKC struck first in the 18th minute with a goal by Lilly Cobb.

The game continued as a hard-fought back and forth until the Cougars were finally able to score the equalizer in the 72nd minute. Junior Katye Skrivan netted a penalty kick for the Cougars, her first goal on the season.

"We need to start better and with more energy instead of being standoffish," said Head Coach Derek Burton. "We were better with that in the second half, which is why we were able to create more chances."

The Cougars outshot the Roos 16-13. Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley made seven saves on the game.

"We are starting to get players back and we are starting to see what the whole group looks like," said Burton.  "We have more games to get under our belt and get used to each other. We're working and taking it day by day, so we'll be in a good position when conference play rolls around.

The Cougars play at home Friday, Sept. 12 against Drake at 7 p.m.
