Box Score CHARLESTON, Ill. – SIUE women's soccer ended its season on a 1-0 loss to Eastern Illinois.
The Cougars finish the 2015 season with an overall record of 5-11-3 and an Ohio Valley Conference record of 2-7-1.
SIUE held the Panthers scoreless throughout the game until the 89th minute, when Hannah Miller scored on a free kick from 25 feet out.
Leading the offense for the Cougars were Courtney Benning recording four shots, Emily Grahl recording three shots, and Cassidy Sherman with two shots, both on goal.
SIUE outshot Eastern Illinois by a total of 16-12. Jennifer Pelley made six saves.
"It's an unfortunate way to end our season," said Head Coach Derek Burton. "We couldn't turn the page and make the next step. We created great chances, and we'll be ready to go back to work."
The program will part ways with its five seniors, Taylor Berutti, Marissa Delgado, Pelley, Sherman and Katye Skrivan. The class is the winningest class in program Division I history, totaling 38 wins in a Cougar uniform.
Pelley also leaves the program on the record list in several goalkeeper categories, including the leader in career shutouts with 29. She is also second in career goals against average (0.84) and third in career saves (294).
Sherman completes her career tied for 34th on the career scoring list, with 28 points on 11 goals and six assists. She is also tied for 17th in career game-winning goals with five and tied for 11th in career shots after totaling 135.
Pelley and Sherman also top the list in career games played and started. Both have appeared in 79 games, which is tied for second. Sherman is tied for second in games started with 78, while Pelley is tied for third on the list with 77.
"I am extremely proud of our seniors and they impact they've made on our program," said Burton. "I'm saddened that we couldn't do more for them. They've been great for us for four years and they'll be missed."
