Box Score TULSA, Okla. – SIUE baseball collected 10 hits Saturday, but it wasn't enough to keep Oral Roberts from the sweep. The Golden Eagles took Saturday's finale 13-3 to sweep the three-game series from SIUE.
The Cougars fell to 0-6 with the loss. Oral Roberts improved to 5-1.
Mike Miller (0-2) started and took the loss for SIUE. Miller allowed six runs total, though just two were earned, on three hits. He walked two.
After an ORU run in the first, the Cougars struck back for two in the top of the second inning. Alec Saikal opened the inning with a double and then scored on a double by freshman Mario Tursi. A sacrifice fly from Nick Lombardo made it 2-1 Cougars. Dustin Woodcock scored on the sac fly after reaching with a single.
The Golden Eagles scored five times in the third inning to take a 6-2 lead. Four of the runs were unearned thanks to a pair of SIUE errors.
"We didn't catch the ball, we didn't throw enough strikes, and we didn't have timely hitting," SIUE Head Coach Tony Stoecklin said. "That's a recipe for a loss most times."
Oral Roberts scored twice in the fourth, once in the fifth, three times in the seventh, and another single run in the eighth inning.
Anthony Sequeira, Rolando Martinez, Emmanuel Forcier, and Dean Wilson each had two RBIs for the Golden Eagles. Noah Cummings was 4 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Lombardo, Saikal, and Tursi each had two hits for the Cougars. Lombardo, Tursi, and Austin Verschoore each had RBIs in the loss.
"It was a disappointing series and I'm disappointed with the way we've played this season," Stoecklin said. "We've played some good competition but we've beaten ourselves."
Weather permitting, SIUE will play host to Saint Louis Wednesday at Simmons Baseball Complex.
