Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. – SIUE women's tennis dropped the first match of the California road trip 4-3 against Villanova while Lexi Aranda picked up her seventh straight singles victory.
"All it comes down to is not being able to play the big points well enough," said Head Coach Amanda Pratzel. "Once we learn to go earn the big points, these matches will go in our favor."
The Cougars started the match out strong by winning all three doubles matches. The pair of Mia Frogner and Monique Krutak improved to 6-3 during the spring season. Aranda and doubles partner Sierra Halverson improved to 5-3, and Haley Ilcewicz and Kali Donner picked up their third doubles win of the season.
Aranda won her singles match in two sets, 6-0, 6-1. Also picking up a singles win for the Cougars was Krutak, winning 6-4, 6-2. Donner and Halverson each took their opponents to three sets, but were unable to pick up the victories.
"We just need to regroup and get ready for tomorrow's match," said Pratzel.
SIUE returns to action tomorrow against Cal State Fullerton on the Titans' home court at 1 p.m. CT.
