SIUE Women's Soccer Draws at Southeast Missouri

Box Score

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – SIUE women's soccer played Southeast Missouri for 110 minutes to a scoreless draw Friday night in Houck Stadium.

The game moves SIUE to 3-4-3 and 0-0-1 in Ohio Valley Conference Play. The Redhawks also are 0-0-1 in conference.

"These are two good two who really fought and battled to win a conference game," said Head Coach Derek Burton. "That's what OVC play is about every time."

The shutout marks the sixth of the season for the Cougars and the third straight. Senior goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley hasn't allowed a goal since a 2-1 loss to Saint Louis Sept. 11.

"We wanted our foundation to be about how played defensively as a team," said Burton. "Our defense led to our attacks to tonight."

SIUE recorded 10 shots on the game, six of which came in the second half.

"We did well with adjusting to how they play and countering that," said Burton. "We created chances we were happy with. Southeast Missouri recovered defensively and made things difficult for us."

Cassidy Sherman led the team in shots with three. Pelley made two saves on the game, along with adding her 27th career shutout.

"It's not easy, especially when you get tired and go into overtime," said Burton. "It's a testament to the players to work for each other. When you do that, you create chances to win."

The Cougars continue conference play at UT Martin for a 2 p.m. match Sunday.
