Box Score CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The SIUE women's soccer team dropped a tough Ohio Valley Conference road match to Southeast Missouri, 4-1.
"We didn't show well today," Head Coach Derek Burton said. "We had less than ideal circumstances but we have to be stronger and raise our competition."
The Cougars got on the board first when they scored an own goal in the 44th minute.
The first half saw SEMO outshoot SIUE 9-5. Juli Rossi recorded a clean sheet in the first half, making four saves.
The second half saw Jensen Schoch replace Rossi in net for the Cougars.
In the 52nd minute, the Redhawks drew level with an Esmie Gonzales goal from the edge of the box. Gonzales struck again, in the 74th minute, after her shot hit the post and ricochet in.
The Redhawks then scored two more times in the 82nd and 83rd minutes.
Ashlyn Walter shot five times with two on goal for the Cougars. Defender Myah Diekema played all 90 minutes for SIUE, recording one shot.
"There were stretches today that were good for us," Burton added. "Our consistency just wasn't there. We will pick ourselves up and get back at."
SIUE (6-8-2, 4-4-1 OVC) will play their last regular season game when they travel to Murray State Oct. 22.
