EDWARDSVILLE, Illinois— The SIUE women's soccer team ended their game with Belmont in a 3-3 tie in double overtime on Thursday.

"I know that we as a team were capable of seeing the game out, so we need to get back to work and clean up a few mistakes," commented Head Women's Soccer Coach Derek Burton.

The team started off the first half with a 2-0 run with goals from MacKenzie Litzsinger and Lily Schnieders. Litzsingers goal found the back of the net early at minute 14 with an assist from Angel Ikeda. The Cougars scored again at minute 34 when Schnieders scored off a Litzsinger assist.

Coming off of halftime, Belmont quickly responded with a goal of their own at minute 55.

With 27-minutes remaining on the clock, lightning struck within distance of Korte Stadium causing nearly a two-hour delay.

The two teams were able to take the field soon after and finish the game.

Belmont responded four minutes after the delay with a goal at minute 66 tying up the game.

Andrea Frerker scored the last goal for the Cougars at minute 71 off a free kick.

The Bruins of Belmont went on to score their last goal as well to tie the game with minutes remaining.

The two teams battle through two scoreless overtime periods.

"We will get our recovery day in and look at film to clean some things up," Burton added. "We will be ready to get back at it on the road on Sunday against Eastern Illinois."

The Cougars move to 4-5-4 on the season and are 2-2-3 in OVC play. The team will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Eastern Illinois for another OVC game set for 2 p.m.
