EDWARDSVILLE, Ill—SIUE women's soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a 6-0 shutout win over Morehead State on Sunday.

SIUE improves to 8-5-4 (5-2-3 Ohio Valley Conference), while Morehead falls to 4-12-2 (2-6-2).

"Anytime you can end the season on a shutout and a win, it is a positive feeling," commented Head Women's Soccer Coach Derek Burton. "It was an overall great day, the weather was nice, we had alumni present and it was senior day. Coming away with the win was a great way to end the regular season and is a positive step moving forward."

The Cougars started the scoring off in the 12th minute when Becca Jostes scored off a long shot to hit the top right corner.

Courtney Benning scored the second goal for the team at minute 18 with an assist from Andrea Frerker.

Frerker then scored a goal herself in the 27th minute with an assist from Jostes.

The team's last goal of the half came from Lily Schnieders at the 42nd minute off a throw in from Allison Wendt who is credited with the assist.

Jostes, Benning, Frerker and Schnieders all recorded their fourth goal of the season during this half.

The team went into the half with a 4-0 lead. At the end of the first half, the Cougars outshot the Eagles 10-2.

Early in the second half, SIUE scored their fifth goal of the day. MacKenzie Litzsinger found the back of the net at minute 54 to record her 12th goal of the season. Litzsinger's goal came with an assist from Jostes.

The last goal for the Cougars was an own goal from Morehead State.

"The team has started to accept the coaching and putting in intentional work with improvement being the main goal," Burton added. "Everything is coming together at the right time for us as a team."

The team out shot the Eagles 20-2 at the end of regulation.

Jensen Schoch picked up her seventh win in goal for the Cougars. Schoch also notched her fourth shutout of the season against the Eagles.

Next up for the Cougars will be the OVC Tournament. SIUE earned the No. 4 seed and will take on the winner of the Tennessee Tech and Eastern Illinois. The team will play on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Korte Stadium.
