Box Score CHARLESTON, Ill.— A three-set sweep for SIUE volleyball Wednesday over Eastern Illinois improves the Cougars' Ohio Valley Conference record to 7-6. The team improved their overall record to 12-13.
The Panthers now drop to 2-23 overall and 1-12 in the OVC.
The Cougars ended the night with nine blocks, averaging three per set.
On top of the nine blocks, the team also ended the evening with 50 digs. Jordyn Klein contributed 18 of the 50 digs.
"We found a good defensive rhythm through each set," stated Head Volleyball Coach Kendall Paulus. "We hit one of our goals and increased our digs per set. I am also proud to see that we averaged three blocks per set."
Rachel McDonald led the Cougars with 12 kills and finished with a .258 hitting percentage, while also adding 12 digs.
Kiana Fields ended the match with eight kills, with a hitting percentage of .438.
The team ended the match with four aces. Sarah Armendariz and Dylynn Otte both contributed two each.
"Our aggressive serving helped put us in positive situations so that's something we will keep working on in these last few matches," added Paulus.
Klein's first dig of the evening marked her 1000th career dig.
"We are very proud of Jordyn for earning this accomplishment in her junior season," commented Paulus. "She works extremely hard and wants to get better every day. The libero does not always get as much recognition as it deserves so I am happy she is highlighted tonight. She deserves it."
The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday at home, as they begin a three-match homestead. The team will take on Belmont at 2 p.m. and First Community Arena.
