EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Justin Ruffin remained undefeated in Mid-American Conference wrestling Friday, but the SIUE wrestling team dropped a 21-14 decision to rival Cleveland State.

"I felt like we came to wrestle today," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "We had the lead at 125, but we just have to find ways to win those matches. It's frustrating for the guys."

Tyshawn Williams put SIUE on the scoreboard first with a 9-6 win over Gus Sutton at 149 pounds.

Ruffin followed with a 9-0 victory over Nico O'Dor at 157 pounds. In his last four matches, Ruffin has blanked his opponents three times and recorded a first-period pin.

"He did a great job scoring bonus points," said Spates. "He has been doing a good job of trying to put more points on the board."

Kevin Gschwendtner added a major decision at 174 pounds for the Cougars, making the decision late to allow Chase Archangelo to escape so he could go for an extra takedown. His final takedown and a riding time point gave him a 10-2 win.

Colton McKiernan closed out the dual with a close 3-1 victory. A takedown in the final seconds of the third period against John Kelbly was the difference in the match.

SIUE, 1-9 overall and 0-6 in the MAC, next faces Ohio in a 1 p.m. dual Sunday in First Community Arena at the Vadalabene Center.
