DeKALB, Ill. - Three SIUE wrestlers are still in contention after Saturday's action at the MAC Championships.

"We wrestled hard today," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "We just have to be more on offense and give ourselves more chances to win. This is a tough conference."

Tyshawn Williams advanced to the semifinals but dropped the semifinal match to top-seeded Brock Mauller, of Missouri, 6-4.

Justin Ruffin won his first match over Buffalo's John Aceri 15-3 but was edged 6-4 in the quarterfinals by Old Dominion's Larry Early. Ruffin then advanced through the consolation bracket with a 6-2 victory over Taylor Ortz of Clarion.

Colton McKiernan had a tough opening draw against Missouri's Jacob Bohlken, who bested McKiernan 3-2 in the opening round. McKiernan came back with spark in his first consolation match, pinning Bloomsburg's Jarrett Walters in 2 minutes, 33 seconds. He continued to advance with a 4-2 decision over Buffalo's Nolan Terrance. 

"All three did a good job," said Spates. "We're excited to hopefully get some more wins tomorrow."

The consolation quarterfinals begin at noon followed by the semifinals. The championships matches are scheduled for 1:40 p.m. All of Sunday's action will be available on ESPN+.
