Volleyball Earns Reverse Sweep Win Over Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo.- SIUE volleyball retuned to action on the road for a midweek matchup at Lindenwood, taking victory in a reverse sweep on Tuesday evening. The set scores were: 19-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-14 and 15-11.

Following the win, the Cougars improve to 11-12 overall and 6-6 in Ohio Valley Conference play. Lindenwood falls to 7-14 and 4-8.

The Cougars dropped the first two sets to the Lions, hitting .143 and .132 in the opening frames, but gained momentum in the final three frames. Trailing 5-1 in the third, SIUE used a 6-0 run to knot the score at six points before grabbing the lead at 9-8. The Cougars held the lead for the remainder of the set, using an impressive .382 attack percentage to begin their fight back.

Down 2-1 in the match, the Cougars kept their foot on the gas to take an early 10-3 lead in the set. It was all SIUE the rest of the way, as the Cougars won the fourth by 11 points to tie the match at two sets apiece.

The final set played back and forth between the Cougars and the Lions, until SIUE tied the set 9-9 and capped off its reverse sweep with a 6-2 run. The Cougars took the final set 15-11 and the match 3-2.

Savannah Christian and Ainsley Ranstead paced the Cougars attack with 11 kills apiece in the win. At the net, Jessica Vineyard collected a team-high five blocks, while Priscilla Jones and Sydney Hummert also added three each.

From the service line, the Cougars' nine aces were led by Caroline Waite who finished with four. Waite also ended the match with 17 assists, eclipsing the 2,000 mark over her collegiate career.

Alyse Drifka led the setting efforts for SIUE, dishing out 21 while recording 10 digs, good for a double-double. Nicole Kijowski paced the Cougars defense with a match-high 25 digs.

The Cougars will return to First Community Arena for a weekend series against UT Martin on Friday, Oct. 28 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2:00 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
