Cougars Continue Undefeated Season with Win over St. Thomas

WATERLOO, Iowa - SIUE tennis arrived in the Hawkeye State looking to continue their run of truly dominant form, and that's exactly what they did with a commanding 6-1 victory over St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars again claimed the doubles point, which they have done in every match this season. SIUE notched victories on the first and third doubles court to secure the 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.

Fabiola Perez struck first for the Cougars in singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win on the No. 4 court. Vanessa Reinicke followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 3 spot before Jill Lambrechts clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the No. 2 position.

"It was great to see the team pick up the victory," said SIUE Head Coach Adam Albertsen. "St. Thomas brought a lot of fight to the match and I like how our team responded."

The lone blemish in the fixture came on the No. 1 court, as Jordan Schifano fell in three sets to her UST opponent (6-2, 4-6, 3-6).

"Jordan dropped a tough one but battled like crazy," added Albertsen. "Overall, our singles play was solid today and our team is playing with a lot of confidence."

The Red & White closed out the contest with a pair of victories, as Amber Hochstatter notched a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 5 spot before Melissa Vizcardo closed out the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the No. 6 position.

SIUE, which improves to 7-0 on the season, will close out the weekend with a match against the UNI Panthers. First serve from the Black Hawk Tennis Club is set for 10 a.m. tomorrow.

"We are excited for another test tomorrow against Northern Iowa," closed Albertsen.
