Sidney Christopher was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday. She recorded one goal and two assists in week one of the regular season. Christopher pounced on the game-winning goal in the 89th minute of SIUE's 2-1 home opener win over Indiana State.
• Christopher leads the team in assists after recording one in each of the first two contests.
• Four different players have scored a goal in the first two matches - Christopher,
Grace Cobb,
Savannah DeFini and
Lily Schnieders.
• SIUE is averaging 12 shots and eight corner kicks per match so far this season.
• The Cougars have put 19 shots on goal in two matches for a .792 percentage for shots on goal.
• Thirteen different players have taken at least one shot over the first two games.

Taylor Spiller has started and played every minute of the regular season for the Cougars. She has recorded six saves and holds a 2.00 goals against average.
• This is the first meeting between SIUE and Northwestern since 2016. The two teams previously played in Durham, North Carolina, during the second round of the 2016 NCAA Championships.
• SIUE is coming off back-to-back seasons of appearances in the NCAA Championships as well as Ohio Valley Conference Championship titles.
• Last season, SIUE won the OVC postseason tournament with a 1-0 overtime road victory at UT Martin. The Cougars met No. 3 Notre Dame in round one of NCAA Championships, dropping a 4-0 decision to the Fighting Irish.
• Two seasons ago, the Cougars won the OVC Tournament in an abbreviated spring season (due to COVID), besting Southeast Missouri 2-1 in the title game. No. 12-ranked Virginia defeated SIUE 3-1 in the opening round of the NCAA Championships.
• The Cougars have now made four appearances in the NCAA Tournament during the NCAA Division I era (2014, 2016, 2020 and 2021).
• Head Coach
Derek Burton has coached every SIUE match played in the Division I era, joining SIUE before the 2008 season. Among his 113 career victories, he has accumulated five double-digit win seasons, including last season's 11-victory campaign.
