MARTIN, Tenn. - SIUE women's soccer outshot UT Martin 13-9 but neither team found the back of the net Thursday night at Skyhawk Field.
"We're disappointed to not get the full points tonight," said SIUE Head Coach
Derek Burton after the 0-0 tie. "But only because I thought we deserved it with the way we dictated the second half."
Matea Diekema and
Sidney Christopher provided three shots each, and
Aleah Minehart added two for the Cougars.
"It's always slim margins in terms of results in conference, especially in the last week," said Burton. "We hit the crossbar, had some dangerous opportunities in the box, but they did enough in the end to keep us off the scoreboard."
SIUE's record now stands at 5-5-5 for the season and 3-1-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference. UT Martin is tied with Little Rock for fifth place in the OVC at 2-2-4 and 5-7-5 overall.
The Cougars enter the final game of the regular season in a tie for third place with Southern Indiana. SIUE takes on Morehead State Sunday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day as
Sarah Magnoni,
Mary Wessel,
Taylor Spiller, and
Jay Viola will be honored.
Spiller recorded four saves while posting her 16th career shutout. That is tied for fourth all-time with Marilyn Kastner (1988-91) and second in the Division I era.
"I continue to be really happy with how we are defending as a team and the fire we're playing with each game," said Burton. "Now we'll look to finish strong at home and be in the best position possible to start the postseason."
