THE BASICS: SIUE volleyball continues its 2023 campaign on the road at Southern Indiana for a pair of matches. The Cougars will face the Screaming Eagles on Friday at 6:00 p.m. before closing the weekend at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT: After falling to SEMO on Friday in three sets, the Cougars regrouped on Saturday to take the match in five sets. The Cougars tallied a season-high 15 blocks against the Redhawks and concluded the match with a .147 attack percentage on Saturday. SIUE also picked up a season-high 87 digs.
THE SERIES: Friday marks the 28th meeting between the Cougars and Screaming Eagles dating back to 1995. SIUE owns an 18-9 advantage in the series with the Cougars taking victory in the last eight matches between the two schools. The Cougars own an 7-5 record at USI.
NATIONAL RANKS: The Cougars lead the Ohio Valley Conference and rank 41st in the NCAA with 144 total blocks. SIUE has picked up double-digit total blocks in nine contests this season, including a season-high 15 last time out vs. SEMO. Priscilla Jones leads SIUE with 59 this season, good for third in the league. Chelsey Abel's 0.98 blocks per set is tied for sixth.
100 KILL CLUB: Three Cougars have registered over 100 kills this season: Priscilla Jones (147), Sydney Hummert (147), and Julia Treichel (127). Hummert's 2.58 kills per set leads the team and ranks 12th in the conference.
DIG IT: Freshman Abi Banitt's 213 digs this season ranks sixth in the conference. She has collected 10 or more in 13 of SIUE's 15 contests this season. Treichel (154), Drifka (127), and Hummert (119) are the only other Cougars to tally 100 or more digs this season.
SERVING UP ACES: Hummert's 21 service aces are tied for ninth in the OVC. She is averaging 0.37 aces per set. Treichel (16), Banitt (14), Grace Beekman (10) and Corinna Jones (10) have also registered double-digit aces.
AT CENTER COURT: Drifka leads SIUE with 292 assists this season. Grace Beekman's 187 assists rank second on the team while her 5.50 assists per set rank ninth in the OVC. Corinna Jones has dished out 121 assists this season, averaging 4.03 per set.
