SHUTOUT:
Kelsey Ray collected SIUE's first win of the season against Jacksonville State. Her 3-0 shutout featured a career-high eight strikeouts from the circle.
SERIES RECORDS: This is the first time SIUE has played DePaul in softball during the Division I era. SIUE holds a 5-1 advantage in the series and last met the Blue Demons in 1990. SIUE holds a 22-8 advantage in the series against Northern Illinois. Both SIUE and Northern Kentucky previously were members of the Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference. SIU Carbondale holds a 32-8 advantage in the series.
LEADING HITTER:
Lexi King leaped to the top of the offensive charts with six hits this past weekend. She is now hitting .280 with a team-leading three doubles.
FOUR HITS AGAIN: King had a 4-for-4 performance against Jacksonville State. She previously had a four-hit game last season against Southeast Missouri.
TOUCH THEM ALL:
Paige Rocha blasted SIUE's first home run of the season. Her solo home run also was the game-winning hit against Jacksonville State.
FROM THE CIRCLE:
Sydney Baalman leads the Cougars with a 2.50 earned run average. Five of the 10 runs allowed with her in the circle have been unearned.
STRIKE THREE: Ray leads the pitching staff in strikeouts with 21 in 25 innings pitched.
DOUBLES ALERT: King leads the offense with three doubles this season and is tied with
Abby Braundmeier for the best slugging percentage at .400.
START OF AN ERA: After spending nearly the last decade as an assistant coach in the Big Ten Conference,
Ben Sorden was tapped as the new leader of the SIUE softball program. Sorden comes to SIUE after holding positions at Michigan State and Indiana, helping the pitching staffs to national honors and top-notch results. The Lone Tree, Iowa, native most recently spent five seasons at Michigan State, where the Spartans sported a 2.38 earned run average and a 1.11 WHIP over 350 innings of play.
