PEKIN, Ill. -
Jill Lambrechts recorded the clinching team point Thursday as SIUE women's tennis bested Bradley 4-1 at Parkside Fitness.
The match was halted after the Cougars collected their fourth team point.
Jaiden McKee, who was making her spring debut, had her match halted but won the first set 6-1 over Bradley's Madalena Andrade.
SIUE ran its winning streak in capturing the doubles point to four in a row with convincing wins. Lambrechts paired with
Jordan Schifano to defeat the Braves' Kristin Hailey and Andrade 6-1. SIUE's
Amelia Gorman and
Margaux Guibal Britt defeated Bradley's Maria Bezmenova and Anna Belogliadova 6-2
"This was a great win for our team. We came out played strong in doubles to set the tone," said SIUE Head Coach
Adam Albertsen,
Schifano wasted little time in defeating Bradley's Kristin Hailey at No. 3 singles, winning 6-2, 6-3.
Guibal Britt won her match in straight sets over Belogliadova 7-6, 6-3. Lambrechts closed out the meet with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Mariia Pukhina.
"Singles turned into a battle and the top of our lineup in Jill, Margaux and Jordan stepped up big today," said Albertsen. "Bradley is a team we see every year and not only are they talented but they fight like crazy. This was a good step for us, and we want to take this momentum into Saturday's match vs IUPUI."
SIUE, 3-1 overall, faces IUPUI Saturday at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center. The first serve is set for 2:30 p.m.
