THREE STRAIGHT: After collecting a 6-3 road victory Tuesday at Evansville, SIUE has won three straight games, including back-to-back wins to take the Ohio Valley Conference series at Southern Indiana.
CONFERENCE WINS: The Cougars took two of three games, including a 10-inning marathon, from Southern Indiana. SIUE is in eighth place in the OVC race with the top eight headed to the OVC Championships. SIUE is 4-9 in the OVC and has nine games left in the league with three each against Tennessee Tech, Morehead State and Lindenwood.
HITS FOR KING:
Lexi King has recorded 50-plus hits in back-to-back seasons after hitting No. 50 at Evansville. The most hits in a season during the Division I era is Haley Chambers Book who had 69 in 2015. King had 68 hits during the 2022 season.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: King leads the OVC in doubles this season with 13. She is ranked 22nd nationally in doubles.
TOTAL GAME: The 1-2 punch in the lineup of
Paige Rocha and King has been difficult for opposing pitchers. Rocha is batting .398 while King is just behind her at .391.
DRIVING THEM HOME: SIUE has five players with 10 or more RBIs this season. King leads the Cougars with 20 followed by 19 from
Emma Neuman.
IMPROVING PITCHING STAFF: SIUE's pitching staff holds a 3.19 earned run average for the season. However, over the last 10 games, the Cougars' pitching staff has a team ERA of 1.86.
Sydney Baalman,
Rylie Pindel and
Kelsey Ray all are under a 3.00 ERA over the last 10 games.
ANOTHER SAVE: Baalman, Pindel and Ray all have recorded a save this season. Ray leads the team with three, which is tied for the OVC lead. Baalman and Pindel each have one. Baalman recorded the final out Tuesday at Evansville for her first save.
DOING IT ALL: Ten different players have recorded at least one stolen base. King leads SIUE with 3 Eleven different players have recorded a sacrifice as the team successfully has utilized the sacrifice twice as much (32-16) than its opponent.
SERIES VS. TENNESSEE TECH: SIUE is 14-15 all-time against Tennessee Tech, which has won the last four games in the series including all three last season.
START OF AN ERA: After spending nearly the last decade as an assistant coach in the Big Ten Conference,
Ben Sorden was tapped as the new leader of the SIUE softball program. Sorden comes to SIUE after holding positions at Michigan State and Indiana, helping the pitching staffs to national honors and top-notch results. The Lone Tree, Iowa, native most recently spent five seasons at Michigan State, where the Spartans sported a 2.38 earned run average and a 1.11 WHIP over 350 innings of play.
