COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – SIUE baseball homered six times Saturday, but dropped both games of a doubleheader as Tennessee Tech swept a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series. Tech won 7-5 and 9-7 Saturday.
The Cougars dropped to 24-22 overall and 7-11 in OVC play. Tennessee Tech improved to 17-27 overall and 8-10 in the league.
"It was a disappointing weekend," SIUE Head Coach Sean Lyons said. "We didn't play well enough today."
Avery Owusu-Asiedu homered three times and finished 5-10 with six RBIs in the two games combined.
Drew Mize homered and added two RBIs in the opener. John Stallcup and Brennan Orf each added a hit in game one.
Jake Bockenstedt (4-5) allowed five runs in 4 1/3 innings to suffer the loss. Hayden Cooper allowed two runs on five hits over 3 2/3 innings of relief.
"Cooper had a strong outing in relief of Bockenstedt," Lyons said. "Some mental mistakes and defensive miscues were too much for us to overcome."
Orf and Ole Arntson each homered in game two. Josh Ohl was 4-4 in the second game. Kyle Ratliff was 2-4 in the second game. The Cougars finished with 14 hits.
"I'm really happy to see the way Josh Ohl played in game two today," Lyons added.
Teague Conrad (4-3) started and allowed seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits in four innings. He struck out two. Zeus Ponder gave up two runs in three innings. Jacob Kampf threw a scoreless eighth inning.
The Cougars travel to SIU Carbondale for a Tuesday contest before finishing the home season with a three-game series against Morehead State.
